The Viernes de Invertir exercise
What Viernes de Invertir is: one long-term portfolio per year, built with small weekly purchases of US stocks, published to educate.
What is it?
Viernes de Invertir (Investing Fridays) is a public financial education exercise: every week about $500 MXN of US company stocks are bought and the purchase is published. Each year a new 52-week portfolio is built and then left to grow.
It started as an effort to encourage colleagues, friends and family to build their own long-term portfolio. It is public because it can help more people.
The rules
- The investment always stays under the investor's control: nobody is sent any money.
- US companies, so the wealth is in dollars: if the dollar rises, so does the portfolio.
- Growth companies that are still cheap, with a horizon of years.
- A weekly purchase of about $500 MXN; anyone can follow it at their own pace.
- Each position is built up to between 2 and 6 thousand pesos, to stay diversified.
- Once a portfolio closes it is left to grow: contributions stop and the value keeps working.
Why every Friday
Friday is just the name of the habit. If the market is closed that day, the purchase happens the day before or the next Monday and counts the same: what matters is that every week has its purchase.
What it is not
It is not financial advice or a buy recommendation. Nobody on this site asks for or receives money to invest it for you or manages other people's portfolios. If someone contacts you using the name of an investor on this site to manage your money, it is a fraud.
